Inner Space Journeys, by Edward Rubio, or Eddie as his friends like to call him is a visionary art project born from his deep spiritual devotion and personal exploration to know the self and the nature of the human condition. His paintings thoughtfully explore archetypes, wisdom teachings, and diverse traditions with the aim of elevating human consciousness and opening channels of insight. Eddie finds great joy in the careful practice of translating transcendental themes and profound life experiences through sustained focus, study, and the alchemy of pigment on canvas. His art is nourished by practices such as deep dives into wisdom teaching subject matters, nature immersion, hiking, yoga, pranayama, fasting, plant medicine, and meditation, and through these disciplines he has accessed profound visionary states and deep states of introspection that he then strives to render visually. Each piece is intentionally crafted to function as an artifact—medicinal, healing, and resonant for the viewer. His work is further informed by extensive travels, participation in yoga and music festivals, indigenous ceremonies, and the influence of visionaries like Luke Brown, Alex Grey, and Geenss Archenti. These experiences continually deepen his understanding of his dharma as an artist and illuminate the soul’s journey that underlies his creative practice.

Ma Kali original Painting
$9,000.00

This painting of Maa Kali is a reflective journey on death, purification, and humility. The painting marks the end of a great chapter of transformation through suffering into healing and realization. I started this piece in the midst of a deep blood infection that I had been struggling with over the last couple years living in Lake Atítlan. Last year around this time I had sores all over my legs that wouldn’t heal or stop pussing. To make things worse we moved to a new area on the lake and our favorite Dog was poisoned on the first week we arrived. I was super down and super sick Death was in the air. I needed a miracle or a deep death that would catalyze my rebirth. Through meditation and intuition I received Kali Ma as my next subject matter. A wrathful protective godess who manifested from Durga third eye to slay the demon Rakta bija who was undefeated

Kali slayed the demon by cutting his head and drinking his blood from a a skull cup. Racta bisha was undeafted because he had a boon where every drop of blood that touched the ground created a spawn of identical strength creating an invincible army. The theme of blood purification plays heavily in the story where the demond blood respesents the endless cycle of desire and how when we seek to satisfy one another desire appears that is equally as strong. She demonstrates the alchemy of ultimate purification by consuming all of the demons blood to end its life. Kali ma reminds us of purification as a constant practice or we will grow sick and die. The yielding of the divine masculine to the sacred rage of the divine feminine so the world is not destroyed. Finally she represents time and the inevitability of our death that will lead to our ultimate liberation. Now as the painting is completed recieving its final paint stroked I feel so much gratitude in my heart to sharing this story from the moutains of Costa Rica where we are feeling on the other side of the infection drama and thriving with clean water. Jai Kali Ma for guiding me through such a intense initiation where I feel like I have reached an deeper connection with Shri Hari God Creator and have acquired a greater appreaction for this miracle of life.

This vision birthed during a traditional peyote ceremony held on Lake Atitlán by the elected elder and wisdom keeper of Wirikuta, Don Rafael, of Jalisco, Mexico, where peyote medicine is used in healing rites, rites of passage, pilgrimages, and as a sacrament to connect with God the Creator. During the ceremony he was assisted by his family member Don Miguel, who played traditional instruments, sang ancestral songs, and recounted the Huichol creation story. The work was created as a visionary portrait of Don Rafael and the deep teachings he carries for humanity, reflecting his spiritual presence and the community’s enduring cosmology. Twenty percent of the proceeds are pledged to the Wirikuta Preservation Project, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the land, the sacred peyote medicine, and the cultural heritage of the Wirarika nation, all of which are threatened — along with the sacred medicine and the people who still live this ancient way of life — by mining operations and industrial tomato production.
